Christmas Sleep Out News 2009
On 4th December 2009 Huggard held its annual sleep out, a sponsored event, to raise not only vital funds but also awareness of the issues surrounding street homelessness in Cardiff.

The Sleep Out always takes place behind Marks & Spencer in the centre of Cardiff and 2009 was the 17th year that the event has been held.
Despite wet and windy weather this year we had our largest number of people sleeping out. This year we were joined by around 30 sixth formers from Whitchurch High School, supported by teachers, and a group of students from Howells. This was done following risk assessments being sent to the Local Education Authority who said how important such events were for young people to take part in.

The event was a tremendous success bringing the young and not so young together to support Huggard's work. This year we were honoured to be again joined by Alun Emlyn-Jones, who in his late eighties is still prepared to endure a night in the cold and wet experiencing the discomfort of sleeping on the streets. This level of commitment is humbling indeed. We were also joined by Judge Nazreen Pearce who again showed her empathy and commitment to the exteme social exclusion that still exists in today's society. Our thanks also to Coral Wilson who also shows an immense personal commitment by joining us every year. And of course our thanks, not just to these individuals, but equally to every single person who took part in the event.
Our street collection on the evening raised £1,526 on the night and sponsorship money is still to come in. Its not too late to sponsor people who took part and its certainly not to late to donate to our work. If you would like to donate directly please use the donate online button on the left of this page. You can also post cheques made payable to 'Huggard' to our Finanace Officer, Kuldip Gill at the address shown to the left.

Finally to all those who took part, congratulations and my deepest thanks.
Richard Edwards, Chief Executive.
